Nissan Rogue sunroof care
The Rogue is one of the most-reported sunroof-drain cars: a clogged drain backs up through the headliner and soaks the carpet, sometimes badly. The catch is that the drain ends are tucked behind the firewall and awkward to reach.
Clogged drains
Four corner drains. The exit fittings carry a small plastic "filter nib" that catches sap and pollen and plugs over time. Front drains run down the A-pillars and exit through a firewall grommet; clearing them gently from the top with a soft brush, then flushing with water, is the safe approach. Professional cleaning often costs several hundred dollars and can recur, so staying ahead of it matters.
A common Rogue failure is the tube detached from its firewall grommet, water then drains inside the cabin and an air blast or wire only makes it worse. Soft brush and water; if a tube has detached, it must be re-seated.
When it is not the sunroof
- Detached drain tube. If a tube has slipped off the firewall fitting, the drain tests "clear" but water still enters. Re-seat the tube.
- A/C condensate drain. Wet floor tied to A/C use.
No Nissan sunroof recall exists; owner reports are catalogued at NHTSA. (Nissan's only NHTSA sunroof case, EA14-002, was actually a Kia investigation that used the Murano and Pathfinder as comparison vehicles and closed with no defect found.)
