Jeep Grand Cherokee sunroof care
The WK2 Grand Cherokee is the classic "it's not the sunroof" case. Drains do clog, but owners repeatedly find the real source is the A/C drain, a firewall seam, or the windshield bond. Work through those before tearing into the roof.
Clogged drains
Four corner drains exit at grommets behind the felt fender liners. A useful non-obvious detail: the lower front drain hose is not in the wheel well where most people look. It routes through the A-pillar and is hidden behind insulation near the driver-side kick panel. The rear hose runs just above the side-curtain airbag, so take care back there. Clear gently with a soft brush or flexible line and a shop vac, then flush with water.
Owner guides warn that stiff wire punctures the tube and an air blast pops it off its fitting. Soft brush and water.
When it is not the sunroof (usually)
- A/C condensation drain under the cowl (passenger side) onto the front carpet.
- Firewall pinch-seam with an unfinished or voided weld, onto the floorboard. Owners have fixed it by sealing the seam.
- Antenna / roof-seam grommet into the cargo area or overhead console; and the windshield bond at the A-pillar.
